How to Care for Fine Art Prints

6 Tips to Keep Your Artwork Looking Its Best

Bringing nature into your home through fine art prints is a beautiful investment — one worth protecting. Whether you're decorating with calming landscapes or striking wildlife photography, knowing how to care for fine art prints will help preserve their quality and color for years to come.

Here are six simple ways to protect your prints and keep them looking their best:

1. Handle with Clean Hands

Always hold your print by the edges with clean, dry hands — or wear cotton gloves if possible. Avoid touching the surface directly, as oils and moisture from your fingers can leave marks.

2. Avoid Direct Sunlight

Sunlight fades even the highest-quality archival inks over time. To prevent fading, hang your print out of direct sunlight or use UV-protective acrylic or glass when framing.

3. Frame with Archival Materials

Choose acid-free mats and backing boards when framing your print. These materials help prevent yellowing and protect your artwork from environmental damage. A good frame also shields your print from dust and moisture.

🖼 All prints at A Wild Life are made with museum-grade paper designed to last — but framing them properly helps ensure that longevity.

4. Keep Prints Away from Heat and Humidity

Avoid hanging your print in areas with moisture or temperature fluctuations — like bathrooms or above radiators. High humidity can lead to warping or mold, especially for unframed prints.

5. Dust Gently

If your print is framed, dust the glass lightly with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. Never spray cleaner directly on the glass. For unframed prints, use a clean artist’s brush or gently blow off dust — don’t rub the surface.

6. Store with Care

Not ready to frame or hang your print yet? Store it flat in a cool, dry place. Use acid-free tissue paper or a portfolio sleeve to protect the surface, and avoid rolling unless absolutely necessary.
